My Hurricane Drama

So we lost power at about 5:30p on Sunday night. We were jaded from all of the pre-Charley-hype, so we were absolutely unprepared. The only canned food we had was tuna, that we actually made for lunch that day, so we had a whole container of strawberries, for dinner by candlelight.

Then, at about 8:30 or so, we heard yelling from the hallway. A man from somewhere below us was yelling LEAVE ME ALONE! GO BACK TO GEORGIA! IF YOU'RE GOING TO KILL ME, THEN COME KILL ME! CALL THE POLICE! YOU GO BACK TO GEORGIA AND ON MONDAY I WILL GO BACK TO WEST VIRGINIA AND NEVER COME BACK! THEN JUST KILL ME THEN! KILL ME!

After about 5 or so minutes of this, we did call the police. An officer came and talked to the guy who was previously yelling. They were all the way on the first floor, and we are on the third, so it was hard to hear what was going on. I actually got a glass and pressed it up against the wall. I heard the man say:

DON'T WORRY. HE'S NOT COMING BACK. HE'LL NEVER COME BACK NOW...I AM GOING TO SIT DOWN HERE IN THE STAIRWELL WITH MY PHONE AND MY FLASHLIGHT AND MY BEANIE WEENIE.

I heard the cop say that he just wanted to make sure everyone was safe.
About 20 minutes after the cop left, he started up again, only this time he went outside in the pouring rain with his flashlight and was shining the light through all the windows screaming COME ONE PUNK! COME KILL ME! i'M RIGHT HERE!

I was on the verge of tears at this point and was ready to call the cops again, but the same cop actually showed up again before I had the chance.

This time, the cop stayed there until this fool went back in his apartment, which happens to be right next door to mine! He kept trying to get the cop to leave, saying that he was going to settle down and felt safer in the stairwell since it was the lowest point of the building. But the cop made sure he went inside anyway. I wish he would have just arrested him, because even though he wasn't making anymore noise, he left his apartment several times throughout the night and everytime he did I was nervous about what was going to happen next.

We were the only people in the building that weekend. No one lives on the first floor and the one person who lives on the second floor has been gone for a while because has newspapers piling up to this day. It was very scary to know that it was only us and him. I wonder if he knows we called the police?
